Grampound 3-1 Gerrans & St Mawes Utd Res.
St Piran League

05 April 2025

With our visitors fielding a few first teamers when their firsts' game was called off, it looked like Grampound might be in for a hard game.  However, although GSM's approach play looked threatening throughout the game, litttle came of it as their attacks floundered  on a solid Grampound defence.

Grampound took the lead midway through the first half when Nathan Penfold roamed forward and got on the end of an awkward bouncing ball, cleverly lobbing it over the advancing keeper, showing great touch.  Grampound looked very comfortable at the back but thecvery hard surface made life difficult for both teams. Grampound were pleased to score a second before the break when Brendan Hitchens added to his impressive strike rate to put the home side in a comfortable position.  However, shortly before the break Grampound took their foot off the gas for a few mintes before half time  and conceded what they will consider to be a very  sloppy goal when several opportunities to clear the danger were spurned.  Grampound made the game safe when Dean Dunn managed to once again score from a free kick 25 yards out.  His curling shot evaded the visitmg keeper to gve Grampound an unassailable 3-1 lead which was held without alarms to give Grampoind all 3 points.
